Donald Lee Vaughan

Donald "Don" Lee Vaughan, 82, of Charlo, Montana, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026, with his beloved wife by his side.

Don was born on July 29, 1943, in Yakima, Washington, to George and Helen (Holloway) Vaughan. He was the younger of two children. During his childhood, the family traveled around Washington as they followed work opportunities before eventually settling in Spokane Valley, where Don attended high school. Later, Don worked alongside his father in the family fabrication shop, learning the trade and developing the strong work ethic that would define his life.

Don later moved to Texas, where he worked as a pipe fitter for several years. In the 1980s, he made Montana his home and began working for the Lake County Weed Control Department, where he remained until his retirement.

A gifted woodworker, Don found great satisfaction in crafting beautiful furniture. His skill and attention to detail are reflected in the many pieces he lovingly built for family members, creating lasting reminders of his talent and generosity.

Don met the love of his life, Susan Long, and the two were married, sharing many happy years together.

As his health declined, Don slowly transitioned from an active lifestyle to becoming homebound. Most recently, Don and Susan became residents at Pal Memory Care in Ronan, where they developed meaningful friendships with the compassionate staff who cared for them.

Don is survived by his loving wife, Susan; his sister, Kay Harms; his niece, Carrie (Jim) Little; his nephew, Chris (Susan) Harms; and his cousin, Pete (Nancy) Vaughan, along with their children, RaeCille (Eric) Vaughan and Dean (Sara) Vaughan. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Helen Vaughan; his brother-in-law, Gary Harms; and his cousin, Larry Vaughan.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff of Pal Memory Care and the Partners in Home Care Hospice team for the exceptional compassion and care they provided to Don and Susan.

Don was the kind of man who would do anything to help someone in need. His kindness, generosity, and quiet strength will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A private family ceremony will be held at a later date.
