Rita Peters

Rita Peters, 95, of Charlo, passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2017 at St. Luke Extended Care, of natural causes. She was born on September 20, 1921, in De Smet, South Dakota, to Urban and Beatrice Feuerstein.

As a young girl, she lived with her family on a farm and was educated in De Smet public schools. She was high school class president and a member of National Honor Society. She then went on to graduate from the University   of Minnesota with a degree in physical therapy.

On June 6, 1955 she married Joseph Peters in Idaho Falls, Idaho. The couple lived in first in Ririe, Idaho and then in Driggs, Idaho until moving to Charlo in 1960, where she worked as a teacher in the St. Ignatius Public Schools.

She was a member of the Charlo Garden Club, Saddle Club, Weavers and Spinners, and active in the Catholic Church.

A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she took loving care of her family, church, and friends.  She loved the Mission Valley, the mountains, and parks. She also enjoyed gardening, camping and hiking.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph D. Peters, her parents Urban and Beatrice Feuerstein and her brother John Feuerstein.

Survivors include her son Daniel J. Peters and daughter in law Cathy and granddaughter Lorraine.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the St. Ignatius Catholic Church on Saturday, June 24 at 11:00 am with Fr. Andrew Maddock officiating.  Burial will follow at the St. Ignatius Catholic Cemetery.
