Walter Welford Esterby

Walter Welford Esterby, age 89, passed away March 21, 2026, at his home in Charlo, MT just a few months shy of his 90th birthday which was a recent goal he had set for himself. Walter was born on July 14, 1936, in Straubville, ND to William “Wendell” Esterby and Adeline (Vold). Walter had four siblings, Francis, Arleen, Kenny, and Grace.

Walter married Linda (Sansom) on August 20, 1959, and they celebrated 56 years together. Linda preceded Walter in death by almost 11 years.

Walter is survived by his 3 children, Susan, Peggy (Ned), and Walter (Laura); 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson. He is also survived by his sister Grace, his good friend Jackie, and many nieces and nephews.

When we asked Dad what he wanted to be remembered for he said, “I worked hard and I wasn’t a loafer”.

A service will be held on July 12, 2026, at the Leon Hall in Charlo at 2:00 pm.
